Three Cylinder Four Stroke Petrol Engine Test Rig With Morse Test The setup consists of three cylinder, four stroke, petrol engine connected to dynamometer for engine loading. The setup has stand-alone type independent panel box consisting of air box, fuel tank, manometer, fuel measuring unit. Engine jacket cooling water inlet, outlet and calorimeter temperature is displayed on temperature indicator. Flow meters are provided for cooling water and calorimeter flow measurement. Provision is also made for conducting Morse test

The test setup consists of Four stroke Diesel Engine coupled to a suitable dynamometer. The engine is single cylinder, water cooled diesel engine running at constant speed. The dynamometer provides variable load on engine to study engine performance under variable load conditions. A wide range of dynamometers is available as option for the engine test set up. Exhaust gas calorimeter is used for estimation of heat carried away by exhaust gases for determination of heat balance of the engine. Air is supplied to the engine through an air box, fitted with orifice plate. The instrumentation console includes measuring instruments for Engine Speed, Torque, Air consumption, Fuel Consumption, temperature & cooling water flow rates. The parameters are recorded by the sensors & transmitted to Data Acquisition Device. The Data Acquisition Device sends the data to computer & which is displayed in the Data Acquisition Software.

 

Data Acquisition Software

Windows based software developed in Lab View Platform is capable of displaying real time acquired data in graphical & numerical format. The acquired data is processed by software & results are displayed in tabular & graphical format. The test results can be saved on computer hard drive in form of Excel files. Detailed Operation & Maintenance Manual is provided along with the trainer.

CRDI VCR Engine Test Setup

The setup consists of single cylinder, four stroke, CRDI VCR (Variable Compression Ratio) engine connected to eddy current dynamometer. It is provided with necessary instruments for combustion pressure, crank-angle, airflow, fuel flow, temperatures and load measurements. These signals are interfaced to computer through high speed data acquisition device. The set up has stand-alone panel box consisting of air box, twin fuel tank, manometer, fuel measuring unit, transmitters for air and fuel flow measurements, process indicator and powering unit. Rota meter are provided for engine cooling water flow measurement.

CRDI VCR engine works with programmable Open ECU for Diesel injection, fuel injector, common rail with rail pressure sensor and pressure regulating valve, crank position sensor, fuel pump and wiring harness. The setup enables study of CRDI VCR engine performance with programmable ECU at different compression ratios and with different EGR.

 

 

Engine performance study includes brake power, indicated power, frictional power,brake thermal efficiency, indicated thermal efficiency, Mechanical efficiency, volumetric efficiency, specific fuel consumption, Air fuel ratio, heat balance and combustion analysis.

Two main components form main parts of the test rig. Welded steel base plate, complete with rope brake dynamometer provided with cooling water arrangement. Panel board positioned over the base plate consisting of fuel system with flow measurement by burette, air flow measurement system, temperature and speed indicator.

Dynamometer (as applicable):

The dynamometer used is a mechanical brake capable of absorbing a maximum load of 6HP @ 650

RPM/8 HP @ 850RPM

Controls:

The test rig is arranged for manual control with hand cranking start arrangement for engine starting.

Fuel Measuring Arrangement:

Fuel measuring arrangement consists of fuel tank, burette and suitable cock all mounted on a

suitable framework and panel board and supplied with fuel piping from fuel tank to engine.

Air intake measurement & heat carried away by exhaust gas:

Consisting of an air tank mounted on an iron stand fitted with a suitable orifice plate, manometer, thermocouple for measuring the exhaust gas temperature with pocket connection with instruments suitably mounted on a panel board.

Heat carried away by cooling water:

Consists of suitable inlet and outlet piping with flow control valve. Rotameter to measure the rate of flow of cooling water and thermocouple with pocket connections for measuring inlet and outlet water temperature.
